Masala chai, a popular South Asian beverage made with black tea, milk, water, and spices, is difficult to make at home due to its labor-intensive process. Loka addressed this by developing a home chai maker, focusing on ease of use, spill prevention, and minimal cleanup. Founders Anish Shonpal, Nikhil Shah, and engineer Andrew Aitken explored over ten design approaches. The innovative 'Chai Fountain' brewing process, which boils the mix from the outside in, was developed to reduce boil-over risks. The design blends classic South Asian cooking equipment with modern technology, featuring a distinctive silhouette and an ergonomic handle that seamlessly integrates into the overall form. Made from stainless steel and ceramic, the device is dishwasher-safe.
